Acceptance of Undergraduate and Graduate Students

We welcome applications from undergraduate and graduate students interested in conducting research in theoretical and computational science. Prospective students are encouraged to review the information on this website to gain a clear understanding of our research activities. Graduate Students in the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo

Students enrolled in the Master’s or Doctoral programs in the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo may join our research group. The primary research location is the Hongo Campus of the University of Tokyo; however, by concurrently serving as a RIKEN Trainee or participating in the JRA program, students can also conduct research using RIKEN’s state-of-the-art computational facilities, including the supercomputer Fugaku. The entrance examination for the graduate program is held around August each year. An information session is typically organized by the Department of Physics in May, and a symposium for students in the Biophysics (A7) course also takes place in May. We encourage interested students to attend these events.

RIKEN Junior Research Associate (JRA)

The JRA program employs doctoral (Ph.D.) students on a part-time basis, allowing them to conduct research under the supervision of RIKEN researchers. The primary research locations are the RIKEN Wako Campus (Theoretical Molecular Science Laboratory, Pioneering Research Institute) and the RIKEN Kobe Campus (Computational Biophysics Research Team, RIKEN Center for Computational Science). RIKEN International Program Associate (IPA)

The International Program Associate (IPA) is a scheme through which RIKEN accepts international doctoral students based on agreements with universities and research institutions in Japan and overseas. Under this program, doctoral candidates of non-Japanese nationality conduct research at RIKEN while receiving joint supervision from both RIKEN researchers and faculty members at their home institutions toward the completion of their degree. The primary research locations are the RIKEN Wako Campus (Theoretical Molecular Science Laboratory, Pioneering Research Institute) and the RIKEN Kobe Campus (Computational Biophysics Research Team, RIKEN Center for Computational Science). RIKEN Student Researcher (RSR)

The RSR program accepts Master’s and Doctoral students as part-time research staff, allowing them to conduct research under the supervision of RIKEN researchers. The primary research locations are the RIKEN Wako Campus (Theoretical Molecular Science Laboratory, Pioneering Research Institute) and the RIKEN Kobe Campus (Computational Biophysics Research Team, RIKEN Center for Computational Science). R-CCS Internship Programs

1. International HPC Computational Science Internship Program: This program is intended for doctoral students enrolled at overseas institutions. The internship period is up to three months, and the research is conducted at the RIKEN Kobe Campus (RIKEN Center for Computational Science).
2. HPC Computational Science Internship Program: This program is open to students from Japanese institutions, including technical college students, undergraduate students, and graduate students. Internships of two weeks to one month are offered between July and March of the following year, with the possibility of extending the period—up to a maximum of two additional months—upon prior consultation. Research activities take place at the RIKEN Kobe Campus (RIKEN Center for Computational Science).
